See The ISS This Week!

Even though I’m out on the road doing in-law visit stuff this week, I wanted to remind almost everyone in North America (and it’s fast & easy for those of you elsewhere on the planet also) to check for a series of bright International Space Station (ISS) passes overhead this week.

This is what the “Flyby” app on my iPhone looks like tonight, with bright passes before dawn tomorrow morning, after sunset tomorrow evening, and again on Friday. Here in the mid-Atlantic states on the US eastern seaboard, bright passes continue though at least Sunday.

On the west coast, I received a similar set of notices for this week, and my daughter in Northern California reported an extremely bright pass last evening nearly right across the zenith.

NASA has an excellent summary of how to see the ISS as it goes over your location.

The “Flyby” app is available for $2.99 (not my app, I’m not making any money here, I just use it all the time and I’m recommending it to you) for either the iPhone and for Android. On the web, see this NASA site for ISS tracking and sighting predictions, or here to get text messages from NASA when the ISS is visible from your location.

Enjoy! Seeing the ISS is always spectacular, and this week’s sighting opportunities should be excellent!e
