My SCE Can’t Get Any More AUXier

…and I still think I’m losing ground.

(If you don’t know what “SCE to AUX” thing means, check here or just Google it.)

But the full “beaver” supermoon was stunning. And when I went out into the back yard and the security light snapped on, the owl that was sitting out took off right over me and was STUNNING!!!

(Ignore the bright blue dot just above the power lines, it’s not “real,” just an internal reflection of the super bright moon in the iPhone’s compound lens.)

Proof Of Life – November 04th

Still messed up from the Daylight Saving Time shift. Need a good night’s sleep, unlikely to get it.

The odd hours do have me saying hello to Venus and the sunrise – not getting old yet!

Sundog

Often they show up on both sides of the Sun – today there was just the one on the right side.

Rainbows from sunlight off of ice crystals.

The right angles, the right temps, the right atmospheric conditions, and BINGO! The entire visible spectrum from red to violet, spread across a cloud!

Vote 2025

Only one item on the ballot, no elected offices, no state or federal offices, no Congress critters, no President… Doesn’t matter. Yes, I’m one of those folks who ALWAYS votes, no matter how “inconsequential” or “unimportant” the issues might be to some.

In this case, switching our voting registrations to our new Forever Home address was one of the very first things we did three months ago. So, San Bernardino County, not Los Angeles County any more, but the process was easy peasy.

Did I vote “yes” on Prop 50, the single ballot measure up for voting, the issue being redistricting California’s congressional districts to weight them toward Democratic candidates, in order to offset similiar efforts in Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, and several other “red” states in order to rig t 2016 midterm elections in favor of the GOP and their psychotic, fascist cult? Yes, I voted “yes,” but only because they didn’t have a “FUCK, YES!!!!” option.

Maybe next time I’ll write that in.

(No matter where you are in the U.S., you probably have an election coming up in the next day or two – VOTE! If you’re not trying to fight the problem, you are a part of the problem. No matter what, I pretty much guarantee at this point that you are not panicked enough about how much shit this country is in. Let’s try to vote the evil bastards out while we still have elections, we might not as early as next year.)

Venus – Morning Goddess

The only good thing about getting up early enough to meet the movers at 7AM is getting to see brilliant Venus in the morning sky.

Well, that and finally getting that last loose end paritally tied up. (“Partially” because everything’s at the house now and out of storage, but I still have to put stuff away at the house. Progress is progress, I’ll take it!)

First Halloween In The Forever Home

Not a single trick-or-treater, but we sort of expected that. Our subdivision only has a dozen houses and is a bit isolated and we have almost no children that I know of and only a small handful of teenagers.

I’ve been a bit busy (candidate for understatement of the year) so I didn’t decorate at all until today, not that we normally decorate much for Halloween to begin with. But it did give me a chance to start seeing where on the house there were places to hang lights and mount decorations.

Spoiler: Christmas decorations are going to be FANTASTIC!

Adrenaline Will Get You To The Finish Line

…and then you’re gonna crash.

More dental work today. Appointment two of three on the current round, which started with the cracked and missing tooth & extraction back in June, just before the move to Hesperia. Relatively little pain today, but plenty of stress, plus the drive 2 hours down and almost 4 hours back up.

One last huge loose end in the move to finish up, getting everything out of storage and up to the new house. Since we were down anyway, it was a good opportunity to meet with the pro movers we used to get out of the house in July and have them finish up what I started last weekend. Starting out exhausted from that, plus still plenty sore from my accident yesterday trying to start unloading at the new house.

‘Tis done. And there’s a big chunk of the expense budget eliminated. Excellent progress.

Tomorrow for the spooky holiday we’ll try to get the telescopes out as we hand out candy in the new neighborhood. If it weren’t for needing to do that, I swear I would sleep for the next 72 hours straight.

Yeah! But You Should See The OTHER Guy!

Oh, let’s get real! I was unloading crap from the Uhaul truck and lost in a fight with gravity.

It was heavier than I expected, I was on the ramp, I went down, hit my head, and it came down on top of my head to add insult to injury.

Good thing I have a really thick, hard skull. Only minor damage to the gravel next to the driveway.

Tomorrow the young, strong, professionals come in to finish the job. I might be stupid enough to do this at age 69 – I’m not stupid enough to try to finish the job after getting my ass kicked.

Silly Faces – October 28th

What did Bilbo say just before he gave up The Ring and went away to live with the elves? Something like, he felt “thin,” like too little butter scraped over too much toast? Yeah, I get that.

Facebook gave me a prompt today, a “before” picture from nine years ago…

A memorable day, this picture was taken just before I got murdered. (We were in Raleigh, NC for our neice’s wedding and we were doing a family cosplay murder mystery. I was the lying, cheating, evil bastard who soon was to be covered in blood on the kitchen floor. It was fun!)

Of course, for the “after” picture from today I needed something equally silly…

Maybe not QUITE as silly, but I was on a tight schedule. One of those things where you do the best you can and move on.

Stay silly, folks!

Launch Leftovers

I’m home, but I know who’s the most upset about me being gone for a couple of days. The birds! The sparrows and finches and scrub jays who are chowing down on the seed in the feeders, and who are emptying them in a day, a day and a half at most. When I’m gone for three days, those feeders are seriously empty when I get home. They even eat the parts that they don’t like!

While refilling the feeders about 18:30, there were these amazing, bright, high-level clouds visible to the west:

They look like noctilucent clouds, but those would be incredibly rare this far south. Normally you would only see them way north, in the polar regions.

However, that’s toward where Vandenberg is, and launches out of there are getting close to being a daily occurrence. A quick check showed that a launch had happened at 17:43, just about 45 minutes earlier.

So, there you go! Launch leftovers in the sunset sky. And happy birds now that their feeders are full again!
